Invisalign is a clear alternative to braces. Now patients can achieve straight teeth and a corrected bite, without ever having to wear braces!
Invisalign is a series of invisible trays that can be removed to eat and brush, while remaining unnoticeable to others. Invisalign trays are custom made for patients with 3D technology.
Invisalign trays are clear and removable. This allows the patient to eat whatever they want during treatment and also allows for easier brushing and flossing. They are also more comfortable, given that there are no metal braces rubbing against the cheeks. Visits to the orthodontist are also quicker and less often. i.e. appointments with regular braces are usually monthly whereas with Invisalign, they can be spaced out more. Therefore, if you travel for school or work, this may be a better option for you.
The first two appointments are the longest. However, the appointments thereafter are usually quite quick. The patient is given a few sets of trays each visit and wears each tray for approximately two weeks. The trays are worn during the day and night, except when eating, brushing and flossing. Each set of trays moves the teeth incrementally into a better position. The visits to the orthodontist are every 6-8 weeks (sometimes more often, sometimes less). During these regular appointments, the patient is given the next few trays and the progress is checked. Total treatment times vary and depend on how complicated the case was initially.
Invisalign Teen is exactly that. It’s Invisalign for teenagers that may not have all their permanent teeth in their mouth yet. This is a great option for those teenagers that are concerned about the appearance of braces, want to be able to brush and floss easier or have an important upcoming event i.e. prom, grad photos, a family wedding, etc.
Conditions that can be corrected with Invisalign Teen
Invisalign Express is used for minor cases that can be corrected in 10 trays or less.
Why have an orthodontist provide Invisalign treatment?
Orthodontists are board certified specialists that have 3 extra years of training after dental school. This allows the orthodontist to predict problems that may occur with treatment and avoid them. Invisalign trays are custom made based on the patient’s needs. The orthodontist specifically asks Align Technology (the company that makes the Invisalign trays) to do specific things with the teeth before they fabricate the trays. This means the patient gets the results they want, faster.
The best way to know if you are a good Invisalign candidate, is to have an orthodontic consultation.
